Biographical Sketch:
Judith G. Voet, Judy to her friends, got her B.S. in Chemistry from Antioch College and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Brandeis University. She has been at Swarthmore College, where she is James H. Hammons Professor of Chemistry, since 1979. She, with the help of faculty in both Chemistry and Biology Departments, established a biochemistry major at Swarthmore College in 1980. Her field of research is mechanistic enzymology. She does research with undergraduates and has focused, most recently, on species specificity of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. She has had Sabbatical Leaves at Oxford University, University of California at San Diego, University of Pennsylvania and most recently at the Weizmann Institute of Science. In addition to research and teaching, Judy is co-author, with her husband Donald Voet, of Biochemistry, 2nd Ed.John Wiley and Sons, and Fundamentals of Biochemistry, co-authored by Voet and Pratt. She has also co-authored Kinemage computer visualization supplements to both texts. Judy is a councilor to the American Chemical Society from the Division of Biological Chemistry, on the advisory committee to the ACS text (in progress) of General Chemistry (in a Biological Context), and on the Educational Resources subcommittee of the ASBMB Human Resources Committee. Most recently she and her husband have become Co-Editors-in-Chief of the IUBMB journal Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education.
