Exam Information

There will be thirteen 40-minute exams every week and one 2-hour final exam. The weekly exams will be given in class on Thursdays and they will cover the material presented earlier in the week. There will be no make-ups for missing a weekly exam. We realize sometimes stuff happens that is beyond your control, with this in mind we will drop your lowest TWO exam scores when calculating your final grade. Family emergencies, illnesses, accidents, any unforeseen conditions, etc will be used as one (or two) of the dropped exams.

All the exams are closed book. However, you are permitted to use a single 8-inch by 5-inch card (or smaller) of original, handwritten notes and equations. You may use both sides of the note card.

Final Exam: Monday, April 28, 8-10 PM. Location: TBA. There is an alternate final exam for students having three verified final exams on the scheduled date or for students having a verified final exam at the same time as our scheduled (common) final exam time. This alternate final is 7:45AM-9:45AM on Tuesday, April 29, Location: TBA. Advance arrangements are required to attend the alternate session. The final exam is cumulative and closed book. On the final you are permitted to use TWO 8.5-inch by 11-inch sheets of paper (or smaller) of handwritten notes and equations. You may use both sides of these sheets. The final exam cannot be dropped. The final exam doesn't have correction.

Bring a calculator with fresh batteries, two sharp #2 (HB) pencils, an eraser and your picture ID to the weekly exams and to the final exam.

Deadlines

The homework sets are due on Wednesday evenings at 11:59 PM. Each homework set will be available to solve in Lon-Capa two weeks before its due date.

There will be thirteen 40-minute exams on Thursdays during lecture hours.

The alternate final is given only for University approved reasons and arrangements must be made in advance. The deadline to arrange to take the final exam in the alternate session is March 17.

Students with Disabilities: MSU is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs, services and activities. Requests for accommodations by persons with disabilities may be made by contacting the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities at 517-884-RCPD or on the web at rcpd.msu.edu. Once your eligibility for an accommodation has been determined, you will be issued a verified individual services accommodation (VISA) form. Please present this form to your instructor at the start of the term or no later than the end of the first week of class. Requests received after this date may not be honored.

Grading Information

Percent weights: Homework: 25%, Weekly Exams: 50%, Final Exam: 25%. Clicker Questions: 5% (extra credit). Total: 105%.

The Clicker Questions will be given during the classes. The scores from the clickers will count as 5% extra credit. No makeups are available for the clicker questions. The possible scores from a clicker question are: Correct answer: 3 points; Incorrect answer: 1 point; Not present or no response: zero point. There are no make up clicker questions for any reason(i.e. absences, lost or forgotten clicker, dead batteries, etc.).20% of the possible clicker points will be dropped, so full credit is obtained by receiving 80% of the possible clicker points.

The guaranteed scale below is based on the total percentage of points.

Grading scale:
4.0 >= 92%,
3.5 >= 84%,
3.0 >= 76%,
2.5 >= 68%,
2.0 >= 60%,
1.5 >= 52%,
1.0 >= 44%,
0.0 < 44%.

This grading scale might be lowered, but it will not be raised.
